10 Best Things To Do in Curacao

10 Best Things To Do in Curacao

Curacao is small island situated between Aruba and Bonaire, specifically part of the ABC islands. This trip location was inspired by the Bachelorette. The Bachelorette, Emily Maynard, had her last few episodes here, including her on-air proposal in 2012.

She stayed in probably a 5 star, all-inclusive resort with amazing food, drinks and free excursions. Chris and I stayed at an all-inclusive resort but that’s where the similarities stopped.

I will not fully recommend the place we stayed at but I absolutely do recommend visiting here! Especially if you love snorkeling and/or scuba diving. If you like scuba diving, make sure to find a place that includes that in their resort price, ours did and we dived almost every day!

However, make sure you rent a car and see the entire island as it is very small and the landscape is so unique. We rented a car for a whole day, drove the entire thing and stopped to snorkel and dive at a few locations.

The MOST fun things we found to do in Curacao are below:

– Queen Emma Bridge in Willemstad – This Bridge is floating and moves if boats are passing by. Try to get caught on it when it’s moving, it’s pretty cool, especially at night!–  Keep an eye out for all of the lizards as you walk around. We stopped at a restaurant and were geeking out about a teeny lizard by our feet and then a big iguana nearby. Then we looked at the edge of the restaurant and dozens of iguanas were climbing up the side to the cliff into the restaurant to get their daily meal of lettuce.

–  Go Diving everywhere and anywhere, off the shore or off a boat.

–  Snorkeling too! We saw sting rays, barracudas, turtles and more. The water is so salty that you float as if you are wearing a life jacket.

–  Colorful Dutch houses in Willemstad – There is a funny story behind these and there quite a beautiful site to see. Great Instagram photo op!

–  Curacao Sea Aquarium – see a hilarious sea lion and dolphin along with all the rest of sightseeing at the aquarium.

–  Swim with Dolphins – This is actually at the Curacao Sea Aquarium but for an extra charge. I have swam with dolphins at other places and this was the most personal, interactive experience I have had.

–  Visit Klein Curacao – It is a small, beautiful island just off the coast of Curacao. Book a boat tour and make sure that the tour includes snorkeling. The tour should include food and drinks also. On the shores of Klein Curacao lives a huge sea turtle population and they are not shy turtles. We saw dozens of them and hundreds of different types of exotic fish and explored the island after snorkeling for a long time; the island is able to be walked end to end in a couple of hours if you so desire.

–   Hato Caves – These give an insider view of Curacao history, and heritage. Not to mention they sell you beer (drink the Polar Beer!!) beforehand.

–  Wild flamingos hanging out in a park. I’ve seen flamingos in a zoo sure, but it’s cool to see them in the wild.

Let me know your favorite thing to do here! We would love to go back and visit all three ABC islands to dive and snorkel.
